Charitable Giving

What’s
The Concern?
- Life is short. I want to make a difference. Where should I put my time and money?
- Can my values and passions be reflected in my use of money? What if my husband or partner disagrees?
- Should I give beyond what I can see and touch?
- Might I make a difference beyond myself? Should I even give? How much is enough? How do I determine how much to give to any particular organization?
- The poor, pollution, bad schools will always be with us. Why bother? What difference can any of us make?
- What about my time? Do I volunteer, or is sending money enough? To whom? How do I decide? How much time?
- If I volunteer my time, why should I vote? Am I not doing enough? If I volunteer my time and vote, why should I support political organizations and candidates?
- Helping others through some organizations is tax deductible. Helping others through politics is not. How do I balance the two?
- Why don't my elected representatives put my tax dollars to work on the same issues I give private time and money to?
- Do I care whether my tax money goes to a religious organization or to a service organization that does not have a religious affiliation?
