Taking Action

Women are in charge of the health of all of us. The environment, all of our life systems and energy, are long term health issues. We women can be the ones to broker the deals between short and long term thinking. Between the immediate desires of "us" and "them." Women can demand a balance between a healthy environment and our remarkable standard of living. We can know both the science and the politics. The steps we can take are both personal and political:

1. Understand the specific issues and the real trade-offs between economics and the environment. To keep up, the details are described right here.

2. Understand where your representatives stand on both philosophy and the specifics of each of these issues and who gives them money, click here.

3. Questions to ask our representatives, candidates for office, and the political parties that want our money and our votes. How much do they know and how willing are they to give us details about where they stand and why? Ask your elected representatives any of these Life Issue questions:

Does homeland security work best with private or public environmental services, like water and gas?

How much responsibility do we have to take for behavior in other states and other countries? Why?

What do you think the connection is between economics and long term issues like biodiversity, conservation, and preservation? What specifically will you vote for?

What action will you take to bridge the gap between eastern and western states on air, water, and pollution?

4. Talk about your ideas with friends, family, and co-workers. You can use these questions to start exchanging ideas:

Should businesses be free to create whatever products people want (and create jobs) or should we be held back from actions that are bad in the long run for the planet?

Should rich and poor countries have the same rules about water, pollution, sexuality education, and population control?

What can we do personally to preserve and conserve, and then how shall we make sure our lawmakers use taxes our way?
