Health Care

What's the Concern

Why shouldn't everyone have the best possible health care? I live in a democracy.

Shouldn't health care be a guarantee, an entitlement, not an insurance policy like car or burglar insurance? After all, everyone will at some time require high quality health care.

If my doctor prescribes for me, why should anyone be able to deny that health care to me?

Health insurance should cover contraception and health research should recognize what women need that differs from men.

In our rich democracy, what possible reason should deny health insurance to 45 million people?

I have been downsized more than once. My parents are retired and their health insurance has been cancelled. How can we possibly have a health insurance system that is tied to employers who can go bankrupt or sell out at any time?

I own a small business. Competition is rough. How can I possibly pay for health care for all my employees?

Our family no longer lives in one neighborhood. How can we possibly manage to take care of our elderly parents? How can we get help?

Why should I have to pay into a public or private insurance pool which includes people who do themselves harm by not controlling their behavior (smoking, alcohol and drug abuse, drunk driving, unprotected sex, violence)?

How can we possibly afford the cost to the nation of illness? Illness causes people to miss work, which results in loss of productivity on which our jobs and our standard of living depend.
