WomenMatter - Facts and Trade-Offs explores issues, asking each of us to decide how much we can or should handle on our own and how much we would be better off dealing with the issue as a community or even as a nation through our government.
In this show, Dr. Bauer talks with Dr. Gail Dines about the influence of Pornography as a factor in our American society which makes violence and inequality seem acceptable, and what we as individuals and as women can do about it. Dr. Dines is Professor of Sociology and Women’s Studies at Wheelock College in Boston and author of Pornography; The Production and Consumption of Inequality.

Pornography is built on the traditional stereotypes of power and control in male/female relationships where the man is expected to be dominant and the woman to be submissive. In America in the workplace and before the law, men and women are and must be treated as equals. In all personal relationships, however, the goals of fairness, equality, and shared power need to be negotiated.
